When you think of a bank robbery, the first thought that comes to mind are some famous films that depict dramatic and thrilling heists. "The Town," "Set It Off," "Dark Knight," "Point Break" ... these are ones that stand out in my mind.
In real life, it doesn't happen like that. At least not on Larchmont at the Chase Bank. Last week I went to deposit my paycheck (don't ask me why my company doesn't do direct deposit!) and this is what went down.
*Me, at the teller going about my business. Next thing I know, I hear quick footsteps going toward the doors and a 'wham!' when the guy forcefully pushed open the door to escape. Confused patrons turned around wondering why this fellow was in such a hurry to get out.
Teller: "Attempted robbery," as she makes her way over to the phone to call the police. (I think she was calling the police?)
Other tellers looked bewildered and whispered, "is she ok?"
The employees then proceeded to lock the doors and put up signs that said, "EMERGENCY, BANK IS CLOSED."
I was stuck inside with two other customers while other customers tried to come in, knocking on the door, looking completely confused as to why the doors were locked. Literally 10-15 minutes later (talk about SLOW) the cops showed up along with a chopper that flew overhead. My guess is that the guy got away, but without any money, so I guess no harm no foul.
