Teaching

(This is the school yard our kids used to play in, since our school was so small it didn't have a yard. It was directly across the street!)

Check out a satellite pic of my old school.

Even though I sometimes wanted to kill myself, I now look back fondly on my teaching days. Especially when I was in New York. I randomly got this email from a student of mine at the private school for dyslexia in Brooklyn. (I didn't change any of the spelling either!) This particular student was way too smart for his own good. He was like a Doogie who couldn't spell. I never thought he cared much for his Asian teacher, but...

Hi Claire,
It's Robert. I was a student of your a long time ago. Now I am sophomore going to one the toughest public high schools in new york city (grade wise) Brooklyn tech. There I have a 85 GPA. I am also on the the track team and is pole vaulting. I am still in the scout and is working on getting my eagle project done. I just really want to thank you for be a great teacher and getting me to were I am now. So how is life?
From a thankful stundent
Robert

This email made my year!

Hey, good for you, that's awesome. No former boss sends me emails telling me how much my excel reports changed their lives. *sniffs and feels unloved*

A "doogie" who couldn't spell, haha
